Commercial Real Estate Appraiser
Horizon Commercial Appraisal and Consulting is seeking Appraisers of mid-level experience who are dedicated to providing quality appraisal reports.
The Appraiser is responsible for preparing market value appraisals for commercial real estate and other properties, keeping up to date on the real estate market trends and continuing education, and maintaining client relationships.
Typical Duties:
- Complete appraisal reports per Horizon Commercial standards and guidelines by independently appraising complex commercial property while using considerable judgment and technical ability.
- Apply valuation estimates in a fair and equitable manner consistent and conforming to the Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice (USPAP), the Code of Professional Ethics and Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice of the Appraisal Institute, applicable state appraisal regulations, and the appraisal guidelines of our clients.
- Provide clear, concise explanations both orally and in writing of difficult and complex appraisals when appropriate and maintain detailed records.
- Resolve unusual problems in determining highest and best use of the property, economic conditions of the area, and other factors related to the appraisal of projects.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major work in real estate, business administration, or economics preferred and six (6) years of professional experience in appraising real property.
- Certified General appraisal license Required
- MAI Designation from the Appraisal Institute preferred but not required
- Demonstrated ability to perform difficult and complex real property appraisal work and prepare appraisal reports covering large and high value properties within the statutory framework and the requirements of the Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice.
- Demonstrated computer proficiency and ability to navigate and interpret spreadsheets, databases and geographic information systems.
- Must have and be able to maintain a valid driver’s license and vehicle with all applicable operating insurance.
- Must be able to successfully pass a background check

- Strong technical and business acumen; and ability to learn, lead, and adapt complex systems and processes
- Must have dependable vehicle, clean driving record, and be insured
- Experience using real estate appraisal software such as Argus Enterprise, CoStar, and/or LoopNet
- Certified General Appraisal license required
- MAI Designation from the Appraisal Institute preferred; but not required
- Experience working with lenders, attorneys, and developers
- Ability to read and comprehend appraisal manuals, legal descriptions, maps, zoning regulations, building plans, and specifications.
- Ability to meet the public and represent Horizon Commercial Appraisal in a professional manner and express oneself effectively, both orally and in writing.
- Demonstrated ability to conduct investigative research, interpret data and apply statistical techniques to property appraisal.
- Demonstrated knowledge of principles, techniques, and practices of real property valuation and appraisal.
- Demonstrated knowledge of current land development and building construction methods, real estate practices, real property tax laws and related rules and regulations.
Work Environment:
Our office space is open concept, made up of cubicles to maximize collaboration between the team. This is a standard office environment with standard office noise like talking, office equipment, etc.
This position will require visitation of various property sites throughout the state of Wisconsin and some parts of Northern Illinois. These locations are always in various settings which can be high traffic retail areas, to industrial in nature with loud noises and mild fumes, and a little bit of everything in between.
